OPEN-E iSCSI RELEASE V. 1.51 - SOFTWARE RAID SUPPORT FOR MORE FLEXIBILITY
Free download of full 30 days version
Puchheim, January 30, 2006 – Open-E GmbH developer and manufacturer of software for network storage solutions, today announced the release of Open-E iSCSI version 1.51. Open-E iSCSI is Open-E´s block based storage software for building cost-effective iSCSI Target Modules (ITMs) as an appealing alternative to fiber channel SAN storage systems. The new Open-E iSCSI v. 1.51 has an integrated software RAID 0, 1, 5, enabling system integrators more flexibility and cost savings in building network storage solutions. The software RAID can be adjusted relatively quickly to increased requirements, for example, through a processor upgrade at the host. On the other hand, it puts substantial load on the CPU, therefore the Open-E iSCSI SMB and Enterprise version also support the most used hardware RAID controllers.
”By including software RAID, system integrators can use the onboard RAID controller of the motherboard and are therefore no longer limited to hardware RAID controllers. This will reduce the implementation costs and we believe that this will make Open-E iSCSI more attractive to the SOHO and small business market.” says Krzysztof Franek, Managing Director of Open-E.
On the other hand, the Open-E iSCSI targets can now be designed with greater redundancy, as the software RAID enables e.g. mirroring of two hardware RAID-5 arrays to reduce the probability of failure. This makes the new Open-E iSCSI software suitable for high-availability cluster environments.
Other new features of Open-E iSCSI Enterprise v. 1.51, increasing both data security and performance:
MPIO support
Multi-pathing support allows a server to access the same disk subsystem via several host bus adapters. This increases both performance and resilience.
S.M.A.R.T disk monitoring
Allowing users to monitor important disk drive parameters and thus identify possible faults early on.
Target authorization via IP address
Ensures that authorization to access individual targets is controlled via IP addresses.
Jumbo frame support
Frames with a size of more than 1518 bytes are referred to as jumbo frames. Supporting these increases data throughput and reduces CPU load during large data transfers.
Full Demo Version
Open-E offers the opportunity to test a full 30 days version of the new iSCSI software. “Hopefully this demo version will convince the users of the ease of use of the Open-E iSCSI solution and will consider our software for their fast growing storage needs” said Krzysztof Franek.
People can download the Demo CD from:www.open-e.com/demo-cd.
